Nightly backups are done by UWITC so in the case of a full system loss, the UWITC can restore
A happy byproduct of those nightly backups is that the UWITC may be able to recover
individual files, email messages, transactions, etc in the case of their accidental deletion; however,
that is not the purpose of the backups and cannot be guaranteed. Users should not delete data until
they are sure they no longer need that data.
The UWITC uses several forms of backup including RedGate SQL backup (www.red-gate.com), Veeam
VMWARE snapshot backups (www.veeam.com), and Barracuda Backups (www.barracuda.com). The
backups are monitored daily for successful completion and to remediate any problems. The redgate
and barracuda backups are electronically transferred to other data centers that are
geographically diverse from our main data center.
Starting July 1, 2013 UWITC will retain backups for a rolling 14 day period.
UWITC has limited ability to restore individual items in Outlook that aren’t message
based including Contacts, Calendars, and tasks.
